Georgia has been elected as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors

During the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Georgia was elected, for the first time, as a member of the Agency’s Board of Governors for the 2024-2026 term. This membership provides Georgia with an enhanced opportunity to support the core functions and activities of the IAEA, further strengthening the country’s role in promoting international security, nuclear safety, and cooperation.

A Georgian delegation, led by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia, is attending the 68th General Conference in Vienna.

In his address, the head of the delegation highlighted the agency’s pivotal role in nuclear and radiation non-proliferation and safety. Lasha Darsalia outlined the recent steps Georgia has taken in this regard, underscoring the significance of robust international collaboration. He also addressed the situation in Georgia's occupied territories, stressing the need for international verification and monitoring mechanisms on the ground.
